         Building the Matrix

In this section a sample Matrix of Change will be built using a proposed business spin-off of UPS. A step by step walk through of the UPS case study will demonstrate how the Matrix of Change can be effective for change management. By helping management identify complementary and interfering practices and processes in the current business model, in the desired new model, and how they interact a smoother and more successful transition can be implemented. The Matrix construction proceeds in four steps:

Step 1: Identifying the existing and target goals and business processes

Step 2: Identifying the system interactions

Step 3: Indentifying the transition interactions and exploring alternatives

Step 4: Capturing the importance evaluation
