Methodologies for Robust Business Process Design

Project Overview

This project is developing methods and tools that allow people to define robust business processes much more quickly and effectively. This work is led by Mark Klein and funded by British Telecom.

The Challenge

Today's business processes must operate in dynamic failure-prone environments, but current process design tools do little to help process designers identify and respond to possible failure risks.

Our Vision

This project is developing knowledge-based methodologies for identifying failure risks as well as techniques for handling them. Our approach uses an extensible collection of generic exception handling knowledge that suggests what kinds of exceptions to check for in a given process, how they can be detected, and how they can be resolved.
